Pools are always looking for additional swimmers and the summer swimming season is just around the corner. I never joined a swim team. I'd probably be a lot better swimmer today if I had.
Swim teams are big time around here. The Chattanooga Area Swim League has sixteen teams in the Chattanooga and surrounding area. This summer, over 800 kids from 16 pools will swim and dive in Dual Meet Competitions. Then there's the Championship Meet at the end of summer.
Not that swim teams are all a day at the beach. It takes work and effort just like other sports. But unlike other sports you will be in great shape and will definitely improve your self over the summer.
But here are five good reasons to take the plunge and join a swim team:
1. Swimming and/or diving gets you in great shape. Check out the swimmers in the recent Olympics--they are lean, mean, swimming machines. After swim team, you will be in top form to master other sports during the school year.
2. Swimming and diving is for everybody. Stars can't dominate a team. An 8-year-old girl's performance is as important as an 18-year-old boy's. And everyone cheers as loud for her as they cheer for him.
3. It's a team sport but you are always competing against yourself, trying to do your personal best. Sometimes you can lose the race but still feel like a winner because you beat your best time.
4. The friends you make can't be beat! Everyone has a great time and the kids rule the pool.
5. The flip turn is way cool. I always ended up having to rest on the deck or gasping for air before continuing back to the other end of the pool.
I definitely should have joined a swim team. To find a Swim Team near you just click on one of the red pointers in the map at the left.
